Music & Movement Experience
‘MUSIC MOVES’: The Music & Movement Experience is a positive and enjoyable way to start your day!
Join us for an invigorating and fun session of Music and Movement on Tues 20th or Thurs 22nd Feb from 9-10 am at the fabulous Milk Churn (winner of the Guardian’s ‘Top 10 Places to Eat in the Countryside’ and 2023 Champion of The Countryside Alliance Awards). FREE TASTER SESSIONS!
Accompanied by music throughout, the hour takes us through a number of positive activities, carefully designed to:
wake us fully,
allow us to be fully aware and present, and
trigger positive hormones that are known to bring us to a state of general wellbeing.
These activities include:
Stretching with music, releasing tensions and learning how to take care of ourselves
Breathing during movement with music, learning about deep breathing and its benefits
Some Yoga lite and chair exercise, benefiting the cardiovascular and muscular systems
A new programme, called “facial yoga”, that is becoming increasingly popular
Learning about habits of everyday movement that can make a difference
The benefits of singing together while moving
This experience is brought to you by Dr. Mark Ross Clark, Professor Emeritus of Music and Theatre and internationally certified Alexander Technique teacher. Dr. Clark has an international career in teaching both music and theatre courses, as well as leading ground-breaking Movement and Music Experiences in the UK and abroad. His unique programmes, which combine singing with physical therapy, have achieved such outstanding results in community centres that he has been awarded grants and awards from both regional arts council organisations and the National Endowment of the Arts in Washington.
Besides his training (and teaching) in music and theatre, Clark is an award-winning director who has published four books about the singing and acting integration. He started his career as a professional singer, performing solo concerts and recitals in the US and throughout the world with symphonies and opera companies. He sang in the Hollywood film studios and with the Carpenters while living in Los Angeles, and has been featured as soloist in popular venues such as the Hollywood Bowl with Ethel Merman, in tribute to Frederick Loewe (composer of My Fair Lady, Gigi, Brigadoon, etc).
Music Mind Spirit Trust is a local non-profit organization that is celebrating its 20th Anniversary, bringing music into concert halls, schools, care homes and diverse community centres including coffee houses and pubs. During COVID it co-created a global online programme with the NHS to reach out to families and homes. Musicians are partnered with doctors in medicine and science to explore the connections that exist and benefit us all. The Director and CEO of this charity is local Surrey/West Sussex resident Dr. Chika Robertson, who teaches violin at the Royal Academy of Music, presents workshops throughout the world, and has played violin with many of the greatest conductors/orchestras, including the Academy of St Martins-in-the-Fields and venues such as Glyndebourne and the Paris Opera, and many many more. Her Young Artist Musical Ambassadors (YAMA) have performed in numerous care homes, and among the projects she oversees is the British Opera Academy (BOA) and SongTrees, which utilises the cutting-edge music technology ‘X-System’ to research the role and use of music to benefit our health and general wellbeing. She is excited about MMST’s latest project: “Music Moves”, the ultimate Music and Movement Experience!
